Sympathetic Character by Alanis Morissette PDF Print E-mail
From the album Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie by Alanis Morrissette

Sympathetic Character

I was afraid you'd hit me if I'd spoken up
I was afraid of your physical strength
I was afraid you'd hit below the belt
I was afraid of your sucker punch
I was afraid of your reducing me
I was afraid of your alcohol breath
I was afraid of your complete disregard for me
I was afraid of your temper
I was afraid of handles being flown off
I was afraid of holes being punched into walls
I was afraid of your testosterone

I Got Flowers. PDF Print E-mail
Abuse Victim gets flowers on her coffinWe had our first argument last night, and he said a lot of cruel things that really hurt me. I know he is sorry and didn't mean the things he said, because he sent me flowers today. I got flowers today. It wasn't our anniversary or any other special day.

Last night he threw me into a wall and started to choke me. It seemed like a nightmare, I couldn't believe it was real. I woke up this morning sore and bruised all over. I know he must be sorry because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today, and it wasn't mother's day or any other special day. Last night, he beat me up again, it was much worse than all the other times.  If I leave him, what will I do? How will I take care of my kids? What about money? I'm afraid of him and scared to leave. But I know he must be sorry because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today. Today was a very special day. It was the day of my funeral. Last night, he finally killed me. He beat me to death. If only I had gathered enough courage to leave him, I would not have gotten flowers today.......

If you are against domestic abuse, please pass this along to everybody, NOT just women.  Abuse affects us all. Do your part to stamp out abuse.

2007, A New Year for eliminating abuse? Do your part and it just might be.

Let It Go PDF Print E-mail
by TD Jakes.

There are people who can walk away from you.
And hear me when I tell you this!
When people can walk away from you: let them walk.
I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. The bible said that, they came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us.
People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay. Let them go. And it doesn't mean that they are a bad person it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead. You've got to know when it's dead.

What Oprah says about men PDF Print E-mail

If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away.
If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay.
Stop making excuses for a man and his behaviour.
Allow your intuition (or spirit) to save you from heartache.
Stop trying to change yourself for a relationship that's not meant to be.

Don't Want To Play This Game
(My name is Bobby)

Dedicated to little ones living with adult fears
Sad Face AbuseAuthor: Rebecca J. Burns
Photos: D. Sharon Pruitt

My name is Bobby;
Although you never hear me speak,
I’ve lots to say.
Even though you never see me smile,
Deep inside I’m still your child.

Although you don’t know my name,
I breathe in and out just the same.
This game you play, I don’t know the rules,

I go to school, and I try to be,
The child you dream.
One foot forward and two steps back,
you did it wrong now take that slap.

Get off the floor you silly fool;
Go cry your tears into Winnie the Pooh.

You have no choice, you are my child, No one cares if you live or die.
Don’t say a word, Don’t tell a soul.
You must be so good, They’ll think you’re made of gold.

Did you play this with your dad? You were his only son.
Why are you so mad? Why do you make me run?
I lie beneath my bed; the pillow no longer drowns the dread.

What made you so mad? You only hit me once yet I feel so sad.
I’m in my room upon my knees, hoping that you will see, the hurting child inside of me.
I’m praying that lightening will strike; will I die before the morning light?

I don’t want to play this game, I don’t know the rules, I don’t want to play your stupid game no more.
Take away the board, smash it on the floor, Daddy won’t you let me know the way, to play this game you play, I’ll learn the rules someday,

I promise if you let me run away…

(Whispered)

I won’t say a word,
I won’t tell a soul,
I will be so good;
you’ll think I’m made of gold.

(Whispered lower) …

I won’t say a word …
I won’t tell a soul …
I will be so good,
You’ll think I’m made of gold …

Desiderata PDF Print E-mail

Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

This is the way of it. PDF Print E-mail
This is the way of it, wide world over,
One is beloved
And one is the lover,
One gives and the other receives
One lavishes all in a wild emotion
One offers a smile for a life of devotion.
One hopes and the other believes
One sobs ‘I love you’, and wet eyes show it,
And one laughs lightly and says….I know it.
With smiles for the others tears.
One lives for the other and nothing besides
And the other remembers the world is wide.

I Would Be Stronger Than That PDF Print E-mail
Artist/Band: Faith Hill
Lyrics for Song: I Would Be Stronger Than That
Lyrics for Album: Take Me As I Am
Website: Faithhill.com

Theres a friend who will call
When her husbands asleep
Crossing the phone lines for comfort
And she cries that she needs him and
Someday he'll change
And now's not a good time to go
And it isn't my place to say leave him and run
Cause no love is worth all the damage he's done
But if she'll hold her ground
Then I'll hold my tongue, ever the diplomat
Oh I'd like to think
That I would be stronger than that

I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
I'm whispering "I was lost,
Now I'm found and forgiven."
